About Us
Diva At the Stage Door is a theater production company formed in Detroit, Michigan in 2005 by award winning radio personality Frankie Darcell.
The company’s first production was the legendary stage play, "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuff" by Ntosake Shange. The show opened to amazing reviews and standing ovations.
Since that time, Frankie has produced and directed additional titles including an adaptation of "God's Trombones" from James Weldon Johnson’s iconic stage play, Vagina Monologues from Eve Ensler, and "12 Angry Men" by Reginald Rose. She refers to her productions as "intellectual theater" because of her love for history and the black experience.
Frankie is an author of two successful books, "Frankie Darcell A Story to Tell" and "Conversations For Sista's Only". In 2018, Darcell decided to bring "Conversations", a comical yet serious look at the stuff we gossip about, to the stage. The play opened at the Independence Seaport Museum Theater in Philadelphia PA to three hugely successful shows — and was scheduled to debut in Detroit, Michigan and Norfolk, Virginia prior to the pandemic. Catherine Hicks, Publisher of the Philadelphia Sunday Sun, called the show "Brilliant!" and depicted it as a funny yet emotional journey through womanhood, like a modern day "For Colored Girls" addressing the issues of black woman and their life experiences unapologetically.
"I want to bring productions to the stage that allow people to critically think about the issues we face everyday with humor, wit, historic relevance and perspectives the audience can relate to and enjoy.”
